Powerpoint presentation for all conflict transformation practitioners

Tuesday, April 19, 2005
The Centre for Conflict Resolution and the UN Development Project in Zimbabwe has developed a Powerpoint presentation for the use of all practitioners in the field of conflict transformation, conflict intervention and conflict resolution. The presentation focuses on conflict analysis, negotiation and mediation skills training. It is based on a five-day training workshop summary.

This Powerpoint presentation contains a summary of a five-day training workshop. It is aimed at assisting practitioners with their work in conflict transformation where teaching aids and materials are scarce, do not exist or are out of date. The presentation was developed by the CCR in association with the Conflict Transformation Project of the United Nations Development Project (UNDP) in Zimbabwe. This is in support of UNDP's project to enhance the conflict transformation and negotiation capacity of key sectors in society, and conforms to current and international best practice standards.

Skills training, as practised by CCR, is generally offered in an interactive manner to encourage optimal input from and engagement by participants. The objective here in developing this presentation is to expand and explore the use of the medium. Because of its impersonal and prescriptive nature, PowerPoint presentations have not generally been used extensively as a training tool. The presentation should, therefore, ideally not be used as a way of introducing training material; topics should rather be introduced and discussed beforehand, in a participative manner.

Following that, the presentation should be useful as a tool to collectively summarise content and consolidate the learning that transpires during training workshops. The CCR hopes conflict resolution practitioners everywhere will find this resource useful, and would value feedback on the presentation's effectiveness, or suggestions for its improvement.
